Our Beliefs
We believe in the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again to save us from our sins.

We believe that the Bible is the Living Word of God, and recognize it as the highest authority for our lives.

We believe that all people matter to God, and therefore they matter to us.

We believe that the church should be culturally relevant without compromising the doctrines of the Christian faith.

We believe that corporate worship is fundamental to the well- being of each believer and the Body of Christ as a whole.

We believe that followers of Christ should strive for continuous personal spiritual growth.

We believe that transformation happens best through relationships formed in Christian small groups.

We believe that it is our duty to obey Christ’s command to make disciples of all people.

We believe that the church is the Body of Christ, and therefore should operate as a unified community.

We believe that only excellence in all things is good enough for God.

We believe that every member is a minister and needs to be equipped to use their spiritual gifts to build up the Body of Christ.

Our History
On January 7, 1962, Living Word’s first worship service was held in its temporary home – Ellisville Elementary School .  Our church had 115 charter members.  In September 1962, groundbreaking ceremonies were held at 15977 Clayton Road in Ellisville. On June 2, 1963, the first worship service in the new building was held. From 1962-2007, the church was known as Ellisville United Methodist Church and was renamed Living Word United Methodist Church as part of the transition process which officially took effect for the Church and the Early Childhood Center in 2008.

Growth has always been a part of our history. There were dramatic increases in worship and Sunday School attendance, and the budget had grown to $33,000 in the mid-1970’s as Living Word broadened its ministries to the community.Groundbreaking for expanded facilities, including a fellowship hall, conference room and offices, was held on August 24, 1975.

Living Word continued to grow and add church ministries and staff.  In October 1988 groundbreaking for new construction began, which included a new sanctuary. The very successful Living Word Early Childhood Center (LWECC) began with a Mother’s Day Out program, and in 1993 a preschool was added. This important children’s ministry of Living Word, LWECC, continues to be a wonderful outreach ministry to our community.

Early in 1999, the church’s Administrative Council established a committee to study the needs of our ever-growing church population.  In May 2000, the congregation voted to take the first step toward moving the church to a new site for expansion.  On January 5, 2001 the church purchased the land for our current home in Wildwood, Missouri .  Soon after, the Building Committee was formed and the architects began dreaming with ministry leaders and staff to design our new facility. The Shine Jesus Shine (building campaign) began in April 2001.  In 2002 the planning continued with the city of Wildwood and St. Louis County and the name “ Living Word United Methodist Church ” was chosen.  Construction began on our new Living Word facility in July 2006 and our Grand Opening Celebration took place on April 6, 2008.

Vision Statement:
We are an intentionally regional church that seeks to make an impact in all areas of our community by bringing the presence of Christ in a transformative way. We will mobilize the vast resources of the Kingdom to benefit others so that the community recognizes who we are and Whose we are by the difference we make.

Connections and Membership
Welcome to Living Word! If you are looking for a church that provides fresh and relevant programming in an atmosphere of family and spiritual growth, then we hope you will consider Living Word as your family’s church!

At Living Word, our primary focus is on assisting people to connect.  Church membership is a recognition of the belonging, or connection, that has already taken place within the life of our community. We hope that in growing as a church, this will help to ensure that no one falls through the cracks or feels lost in a congregation of people that knows your name and face, but not who YOU are. As a result we are welcoming you to become part of the Living Word family, and not merely a number on our roster.

We want you to know that we are interested in learning more about you, your family, and your spiritual journey that has led you to our church. Our Welcome Team would love to have the opportunity to meet with you so we can get to know you better. We don’t want to lose an opportunity to help you realize there is a place waiting for you in our church family. If you would like to set up a time to meet throughout the week or on Sunday morning, please do not hesitate to contact us at 636-821-2800. Please ask for staff members Greg, Chris, or Kelly. We look forward to hearing from you and encouraging you along the way as you seek to discern God’s will for your life.

Voluntary Connection classes are offered the first three Sunday mornings of every month beginning in August that cover the following topics:
1) What is Christianity?
2) What is United Methodism?
3) Who is Living Word?

Visitors interested in beginning to make connections at Living Word are highly encouraged to attend these classes, as a way to learn about who we are at Living Word, and so we at Living Word can learn about who you are.  Our next semi-annual Connection Celebrations is September 27, where we offer the opportunity to take our membership vows and you have a chance to meet with other new members and staff in an informal gathering with good food and fellowship.

To register for a class or to afford us the pleasure of meeting you, please contact Chris Shank, Director of Adult Ministries,
at cshank@livingwordumc.org, or call 636-821-2800. Click here to read the Reception Into Living Word United Methodist Church
