Beacon Budget Samples

Hello Living Word Family,

It is my privilege to serve the church as the Finance Committee Chair, alongside a group of wonderful, dedicated people. The committee’s number one priority is to be a good steward of the gifts God has graced Living Word with through your generous tithes and offerings. Right now the committee is in the early stages of preparing our budget for 2017. Rest assured the church is in solid financial position. But with God’s help, there is so much more we can do. Kim Cox, Director of Finance, and Greg Finfrock, Executive Pastor, and the rest of the committee will work the remainder of this year putting a good budget together to help us further spread the Word of God.

Just as it’s important for the church to prepare a budget, it’s also smart for us as individuals to prepare a budget. After all, we have each been blessed and entrusted with God’s gifts. We all have the responsibility to be good stewards. My old Webster Dictionary’s definition of steward says, “One in charge of a household or estate, to manage domestic concerns and keeping of accounts; an administrator of finances and property.” The Bible describes stewardship in Luke 16: 10-12 as “whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?” It’s clear that God places the responsibility of good stewardship on each of us.

I’m sure many of you already have household budgets, but for those who don’t or may need to refresh theirs, you will find a sample personal budget by visiting www.livingwordumc.org and clicking on “resources”, and then “beacon resources” to help prepare your own personal budget. Most categories important to managing a home are listed, but you can easily add your own specific categories if needed. You can also find many other budgeting tools online. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 314-630-7036. I hope this is helpful to you as we all seek to be better stewards of God’s gifts.

In God’s Love,

Jim Jones
